KARACHI, Pakistan, December 8th. 2005. FiveRivers Technologies (Pvt.) Limited showcased its groundbreaking Handheld Computer, codenamed Sirius, during PASHA's ICT for Development conference in Karachi. The session was chaired by Dr. Arun Mehta, an eminent Information Technology pioneer in India and Chairman of Radiophony, India. In attendance were distinguished members of the Pakistani and Indian IT community, NGO leaders, Educationists and Government representatives.
Mr. Hasan Rizvi, CEO of FiveRivers, introduced the Sirius Technology prototype to the audience. Sirius is the first completely indigneously designed computer from Pakistan. It is designed to be a very low-cost alternative to handheld and desktop computing devices. The device is based on a unique Tri-Processor architecture and runs a custom operating system, AlephOS, also designed and developed by FiveRivers. AlephOS supports graphical user interfaces, communication with desktop systems and peripherals and is also Urdu/English enabled.
The presentation was very well received and the audience expressed a deep interest in the Technology which represents a revolutionary step forward for Pakistan's IT development efforts. A number of Government Agencies and Private Companies expressed an interest in exploring joint ventures and collaboration with FiveRivers to further promote this Technology in the country, and the entire developing world.
